By Sheila and Emily 5th class
On the 18th of May we set off on our journey to Mount Sion Gaa Pitch to take part in the u11A camogie finals. Our first match was against Ballyduff. We won this match and there was a number of scores from all of the forwards and great support from our u13 team who came to watch us.
Next up was Butlerstown, this was a bit of a challenge but we worked hard and thanks to super defensive work from Ciara Ryan, Sinead Dempsey, Aoife Phelan and Carley Reville we came away with another win.
Our final match of the day was against Ballygunner. Whoever won this match came home with the cup so everything was on the line for us! After a tough start, we were ahead at half time but only slightly. The u13 team got louder and we worked even harder and came away winners! Captains Sheila O’Donovan and Isobel Keane were presented with the cup and the cheers could be heard from a mile away! A special mention has to go to our super keeper Keeley Walsh from 3rd class who kept a clean sheet for the whole tournament.
We sang the whole way home on the bus and when we came back to the school we were over the moon to see all of our friends lined up to welcome us back with the cup. The atmosphere was electric!
A few weeks later we were presented with our medals by All Star winner Beth Carton. She gave us advice and took time to answer lots of our questions. We finished up with a party. We even had a photographer called Joe Evans come in to take our photograph for the newspaper. We are all delighted with ourselves for what we have achieved. We would like to say a big thank you to our coaches Ms. Heylin, Mr. Lyons and Mrs. King.
Our team on the day was : Isobel Keane, Sheila O’Donovan, Emily Kirby Whelan, Abbie Kavanagh, Ciara Ryan, Molly O’Rourke, Emma Laffan, Aoife Phelan, Millie Mc Lawrence, Chloe Howard, Sinead Dempsey, Quinn Bosk, Keeley Walsh and last but not least Carley Reville who made a super recovery after a recent injury.
